HI, For the two control knobs on the leftmost side of the radio (in the two yellow circles below), I guess that they are for turning the radios on/off and controlling brightness. So, it should be installed with potentiometers with switch (like one below), not encoders. Am I correct? Many thanks. KK

That's what I did. Basically on/off switches.

Dear Dan,
Thanks for your reply.
AlbEAGLE did mention that these pots are optional. If I do not install these two pots, does the radio work?
Also where do the switch leads go to. I cannot identify the connection pins for the switches on the PCB.
Sorry for bothering you with so many questions.

HI AlbEagle, Thanks for your reply. Actually, I am referring these two pots in the yellow circles below. Are they just normal encoder without switch? Many thanks. KK

I connected the switch wires to Com1 ext and Com2 ext on the back of the board.

Exactly, you connect them to the Com1 Ext and Com2 Ext on the back of the board. and these are the pins:

I connected the switch wires to Com1 ext and Com2 ext on the back of the board. As you suggested, I connect a potentiometer with switch to Com1 Ext and Com2 Ext. May I ask what are the offsets for Com1 on/off and Com2 on/off in FSIPC ? Many thanks? KK

I haven't found offsets for these yet. Basically you just need a place to store a 1 or a 0 so theoretically you could use an offset that doesn't otherwise apply (a light not present on a 172 or something similar). Not sure what other's do in this situation.

Hi Larry, I agree with you that those 10k Pots cannot be soldered directly onto the PCB. Just use the nut to attach it to the faceplate , therefore, I tried to get the smallest possible pots in the market. Regards, KK

Have the same problems - there is not a documentation on all this thing - also some failures on the PCB-Layout also. It is the V2 means Version 2 - so basically it have some problems like the encoders on the end of the pcbs - missing holes. Then i don't know which is a POT or a Encoder. Is somwhere here how can explain or have some photos with describrition on the PCBs which things are where?
I have used photoshop to make this:
