Hey
when you get to designing this , don't forget to leave enough room on the back of the PCB so the screen does not short anything and also which screens will fit here.... there are a lot of them, but the cheaper ones are 16:9 which I don't know if they fit?

Hi, someone ( buddymooneyhan) has already gotten the PCB's and started assembling it. He has already soldered the resistors and caps, and now waiting for the screens and the rest of the components. I am waiting for his feedback, if there might be any eventual issues so I can fix before publishing it.

at least this one has a lot less components and traces

at least this one has a lot less components and traces True, but it has a lot of resistors though. I tried to make a version with SMD resistors and SMD MAX7219 and shift registers, so that we can purchase the PCB assembled with those, and we can solder the rest which would be very easy, but it is not working somehow with JLCPCB because 1. of the files that are requested for the assembly 2. It looks a little too expensive, around 60+ Euro for the assembly of the resistors and chips which brings the cost of 5 PCB's around 90 Euro, and considering that those are not the most expensive components, the whole radio would come to a high price, which was not intended to be.

it would be nice to have an SMD version, but personally I do not mind soldering

So far he has tested the input and output shift registers as well as the 7 segment displays, and they work as expected, but he is still installing the rest of components.
