Thanks 1.the power supply I checked - it is crap - it fluctuates between 2.8-6 all the time, today is too late to get a new one - how many amps do I need for all of the board? 2.as for the cutting and soldering - did it, and now it is strange - only COM1 on the audio panel (left top one) is responding, but it toggles commands between all the other buttons? and even stranger - it turns the 7Seg off when pressed and on when released? 3. will solder a new one and let you know 4. this is also strange - it shows the NM and KT (but with extra lines no matter if mobiflight is open or not, I just connect the UCB cable and they light up - no need for a power supply, it looks like only these and the LED's take power from USB and not the power supply)?? and a new one - the 4 switches - one by the power supply connection on the back, and 3 around the DME/ADF area - what exactly do they do?

and replaced the NAV1 encoder - still no go - the MHz still does not work , the KHz works perfectly

Please check carefully if you by mistake cut or for some reason shorted any tracks while cutting. Delete all the input configs in mobiflight and start one by one, as the order of the input keys now has changed. 3. That is strange, If you have a multimeter, can you please check if you have a solid connection between Nav1 Mhz pins and Arduino D12 and D13 pins. 4. They should also go through Mobiflight. Can you please check/uncheck different numbers in mobiflight for the NM and KT letters to see if you get different lights on. The LED's get the power from shift registers which are supplied from the external power supply. If you connect only the arduino (through USB), you will get LED's turn on, and displays but with a low intensity. I suggest you plug first the power, than usb and at the end Mobiflight. 5. The switch by the power supply turns on and off the power. Check that it is on the On position. The other 3 switches are for ADF On/Off, DME R1/R2, DME On/Off

Regarding the Input shift registers, please just let me check the circuit one more time, I'll get back to you.

There was a mistake from my side, I apologize, looks like I'm too tired today. Can you please remove the wire from the first cut and solder it as below, to restore the first cut (I corrected the first post as well) . And solder that wire to pin D43. Also cut the track above the pin D43 as in the picture below.

Almost there with the input shift registers.... now almost all of them work (though in completely different numbering) - the only push buttons that do not work are COM1, COM 2 and BOTH on the audio panel and all the push buttons on the encoders, other then that all the buttons work
as for the COM1 button - when I push it, it shuts off all the 7Seg, maybe that is a lead to what is wrong?
regarding the NM and KT, as soon as the USB cable is connected I get this :
no matter id mobiflight is running or not, it shows these

one more thing if it's not a big issue - is it possible to do the engraved button stl with the text at least 2 time deeper, or even more? as you can see from the image above, the letters are too shallow so when I fill them and sand a bit they are almost gone

Let me check COM1, COM2 and BOTH and I will get back to you. What about the other buttons like NAV1, NAV2, MKR, are they working correctly, what about the LED's above them. Regarding the other buttons, the order should be backwards now. Cam you please confirm?

I checked COM1, COM2 and BOTH buttons, everything looks good, I can't find anything wrong. Can you please check if there is any shorts somewhere while soldering the wires. Also while pushing COM1, COM2 or BOTH, make sure there is none of the other following buttons pushed or shortened (these are anyway extra buttons and are not needed): These are all the encoder and pot push buttons, don't shorten or push them.

the LED's where working from the start with no problems as for the buttons - my mistake, it seems that shift register 2 is not working, all the buttons on 1 now are working and in the correct order in you file
maybe I cut something or soldered something incorrectly?

Great to hear, this is the good thing about the ic sockets, it makes it possible to swap a damaged shift register or max chip Can you please take some screenshots of the NM and KT letters settings in mobiflight.

actually the COM1EncPush and COM2EncPush are needed - to switch between the KHz increments, the others are not
can you let me know which of the changes I made were for Shift register 1 which is working and which was for shift register 2 which is not ?
that way I could check the correct fixes?

regarding the NM and KT, will send tomorrow (actually already today ), the sim computer is already off. but I still do not understand how they display like the image above even though nothing is giving them data?

This was the fix for the second row of Input shift registers COM1, COM2, BOTH, and the rest of encoder and pot push buttons.

Hey again
I was wrong about the input re-assignment, this is the new one: Input 24 BtnTRVFR 74HC165 - 1 Input 25 BtnAP Input 26 BtnSPD Input 27 BtnHDG Input 28 BtnALT Input 29 BtnNAV Input 30 BtnAPR Input 31 BtnREV Input 16 BtnTR1 74HC165 - 2 Input 17 BtnTR2 Input 18 BtnTR3 Input 19 BtnTR4 Input 20 BtnTR5 Input 21 BtnTR6 Input 22 BtnTr7 Input 23 BtnTRCLR Input 8 BtnNAV2SW 74HC165 - 3 Input 9 BtnADF Input 10 BtnBFO Input 11 BtnFRQ Input 12 BtnFRQET Input 13 BtnSETRS Input 14 BtnTRIDENT Input 15 BtnTR0 Input 0 BtnNAV1ASW 74HC165 - 4 Input 1 BtnNAV2ASW Input 2 BtnMKRASW Input 3 BtnDMEASW Input 4 BtnADFASW Input 5 BtnCOM1SW Input 6 BtnNAV1SW Input 7 BtnCOM2SW
also, shift register 2 is still not working - I thought maybe I didn't cut good enough, so i made 2 more cuts, and soldered the wire from the arduino pin instead of the location in the middle, still no go. and when pressing COM1ASW it still shuts off all the 7Seg even if the wire is not connected?
